Slowest Cars in the World (as of 2012)
5) 2012 Toyota Prius v Wagon (78.8 mph)
$31,300. 98 hp. Made in Japan.
Zero to 60 mph in 10.1 seconds.
The Prius has many options to choose from and newly added to the family affair is the v Wagon. It weighs about 300 lbs. more than the original Prius so that may have an impact on fuel economy. It is roomier, but also boxy making it less aerodynamic and therefore placing it on the slowest list. With the lower case “v” it looks as if to say Prius versus Wagon. Call Toyota’s lawyer for the low-down.
6) 2012 Fiat 500 Sport (77.5 mph)
$19,700. Made in Italy. 110 hp.
Zero to 60 mph in 10.1 seconds.
Pronounced “cinquecento” The 500 is cute as a button and about as big as one. There should be a sign saying if you are over 5’9” you are not allowed in this ride. As cute as this princepessa is not only did it score low on speed it also missed the mark on steering, a high shifter and does not measure up to low gas mileage for its size.
7) 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid (80.0 mph)
$24,820. Made in Japan. 110 hp.
Zero to 60 mph in 9.9 seconds.
One of the roomier hybrids on this list, but still not reaching the Prius’ fuel economy status, the Honda Civic is getting high marks in design likeability. Honda Civic is also on the top ten list of most stolen cars(1995 model).
8) 2012 Fiat 500 (77.4 mph)
$18,400, Made in Italy. 101 hp.
Zero to 60 mph in 9.8 seconds.
One of the top Super Bowl XLVI car commercials featured a Fiat 500, specifically the 500 Abarth. What isn’t sexy in Italian? Certainly Fiat’s have a great reputation. Think of the three Fiats on this list as taking it nice and slow. (See #6 on the list).
9) 2012 Nissan Versa SL (80.8 mph)
$16,320. Made in Japan. 110 hp.
Zero - 60 mph in 9.8 seconds.
Nissan markets this car as being the cheapest in America with the most leg room. The Versa is similar to the Fiat 500 market, but here, packaging comes into play. Do you go for looks over performance or vice versa?
10) 2011 Toyota Corolla LE. Top speed: (80 mph)
$20,769. Made in Japan. 98 hp.
Zero - 60 mph in 9.8 seconds.
A top selling vehicle for a years, the Corolla’s brand seams to sell itself, but the Honda Civic is on its tail. This car appeals to parents buying their kid’s first car and they can rest assured the Corolla’s stability control will quelch any steering antics. The Corolla needs to up the ante on fuel economy. With 40 mpg being the target this popular sedan should get with the eco program.
